Ariamna Contino

Ariamna Contino (born 1984), a Cuban visual artist based in Havana, specializes in intricate hand-cut paper works that juxtapose delicate, ritualistic techniques with stark explorations of socio-political realities, including drug trafficking routes, narco-aesthetics, underground economies, and intersections between nature and human impact, often drawing on transdisciplinary research in statistics, history, geopolitics, and sciences to reveal hidden narratives of power and identity. Graduating from Havana's San Alejandro Academy with a focus on engraving, she has exhibited internationally at venues like the Venice Biennale, Havana Biennial, and museums such as the National Museum of Fine Arts in Havana and the Museum of Concrete Art in Ingolstadt, earning awards including the Maretti Prize; frequently collaborating with Alex Hernández Dueñas, her monochrome compositions challenge perceptions through beauty laced with critique, with pieces in collections like the Pérez Art Museum Miami and Jorge Pérez Collection.
