Smaller creatures and human figures appear embedded in or attached to the guardian’s body, as though inhabiting the chambers of a living map. Lines pass across the canvas like paths, restraints, or invisible boundaries, while the chain and suspended brush introduce physical objects into the pictorial field. The work reflects Bedia’s sustained engagement with Afro-Cuban and Indigenous systems of knowledge, particularly those in which animals, objects, bodies, and natural forces participate in a continuous spiritual reality.
