“I create universes where the real and the imaginary coexist… my work is a kind of symbolic cartography where each element holds multiple meanings and connections.” - Carlos Estevez

Carlos Estévez (born 1969), a Cuban artist based in Miami, delves into human spirituality and metaphysical inquiries through paintings, drawings, sculptures, and installations that merge childlike dreaminess with intricate motifs of marionettes, automatons, fantastical architectures, cosmic geometries, angelic beings, and chimerical creatures, transforming mystery into knowledge via an alchemical lens. Graduating from Havana's Instituto Superior de Arte, he has earned the Grand Prize in the First Salon of Contemporary Cuban Art, Joan Mitchell Foundation Painters & Sculptors Grant, Cintas Foundation Fellowship, and Ellies Creator Award, with solo exhibitions at the National Museum of Fine Arts in Havana, Tucson Museum of Art, and Pérez Art Museum Miami, alongside participations in Havana Biennials and international venues. His works reside in collections like the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, Ludwig Forum in Aachen, Bronx Museum, and Denver Art Museum, affirming his role in bridging Cuban heritage with universal philosophical explorations.
