View on a Wall

Dogma / Doctrine (2011) reworks a broken wooden chair cast in bronze, with stainless steel handcuffs affixed to its base. This sculpture mimics an ordinary object but exposes control embedded in daily life.

The title "Dogma" evokes rigid ideology. The damaged chair and restraints symbolize bodily limits, suppressed voice, and the subtle infiltration of authority into routine spaces.

Rooted in Duchamp's readymades, it echoes Bourgeois's tension, Nauman's unease, Beuys's critique, and Brancusi's material precision, with a Surrealist twist in its unusable form. Beyond Cuban contexts, it critiques power in domestic, educational, and institutional settings. The absent sitter implies confinement and silenced dialogue. Control lurks in familiar objects, revealing systemic pressures.
