Glexis Novoa, born in Holguín, Cuba, in 1964, is a Cuban-born, Miami-based artist known for his investigations of architecture, ideology, memory, and systems of political and financial power. Raised in Havana, he graduated from the National School of Art in 1984 and emerged as an influential figure within the Cuban art revival of the 1980s. His early Etapa Romántica and Etapa Práctica works appropriated the visual language of Socialist Realism and revolutionary propaganda, exposing the theatrical mechanisms through which authority constructs its public image.
